May 17, 2010
The meeting was opened at 7:05 p.m. by Chairman Ronald Broman.  Also present were members Edward Sheehan, Mary Ann Gray, Ted Whittaker, Allen Ward, and Health Agent Judith Giorgio. The minutes of April 26, 2010 and May 3, 2010 were approved.  The correspondence was reviewed.

Action Items

Potassium Iodide:  Distribution in progress.
Medical Reserve Corps, Chatham; Public Health Emergency Plan.

Update on beaches;

Judith spoke to Dan Tobin who updated her on the plans for the beaches. The signs have all been ordered. There will be 4 port-a-toilets, which will be emptied daily starting in late June through August. They will be in place by Memorial Day weekend and will be pumped 5 days until the busy season.  The Park and Recreation Commission will be updating the Board of Selectmen on June 1, 2010 about the upcoming season.  The beach brochure is being updated.

Ted Whittaker feels the Board should be having more direct communication with the Parks and Recreation Commission, and is frustrated that they have not had any since our last meeting with them. Ron Broman said he will contact their Chairman to discuss the matter. The Board also expressed concern about the wording on the signs. Judy will ask Bob if he discussed it with the Town Attorney, Bruce Gilmore, as was the plan.

Update on Emergency plan;

Judy reviewed the latest communication drill flow chart wit the Board and noted changes that need to be made. She explained that this is a Tier 1 drill so only the initial contacts will be called.  Ron Broman asked who contacts the Chatham Volunteers.  Judy explained the Jean Roma, for the Medical Reserve Corps, is our Volunteer Coordinator, and she is the only one who can deploy MRC volunteers.  Judy updated the Board on the upcoming Adult Vaccine clinic. The communication drill is to be conducted in conjunction with that.

Other Business;

Ron Broman discussed the confusion regarding scheduling of Chip Osbourne, via Laura Kelly, to discuss pesticide free gardening. Judith explained that Laura Kelly did not know who she talked to. And none of the Board members were aware of the plan to have them in to speak. Mary Gray feels we should find out more about the talk before scheduling. Ted and Mary both expressed concern about the influx of activists from other towns who monopolized the Chatham NSTAR meeting. Judy said she would find out more about the speaker and his presentation.

Judy gave the Board copies of the Medication Disposal brochure. Bob Duncanson has ordered more copies and they will be distributed around Chatham.

Judy reminded the Board about the upcoming MRC Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on May 19th.  Ted, Ed, and Mary Ann are attending.
